Say it isn't so

Every two weeks, for the past 4 years, the award winning LugRadio team put out a podcast talking about the latest linux / oss news and having very colourful discussions about their very polarised views on all things linux.

They have even had live weekend events, which, at the time I wished I was able to attend, and am now very sad that I didn't.

Guys, the OSS community is going to miss you.

More info here and here.

What is Linux?

This comment on Linux.com makes a really valid point, and it's an extension of what I touched on before with respect to Linux marketing, and foolish acronyms.

But, what to do? What indeed.

Linux Evangelism: The way forward

Neil Robinson — Fri, 28/03/2008 - 21:54

We need to find a way to encourage more people to adopt the open source way of life.
I think Quinn and I have found the solution. What follows is a exerpt of the transcript of a conversation we had earlier today...

3:51 PM Quinn: fiddlesticks! a friend at work is about to cave in and reformat his (ubuntu) laptop to put windows back on.
intervention time! what do i say?
3:52 PM me: I have already failed to prevent this with Angie's laptop
She must now use it for work
It must have offie
office
Bye bye Ubuntu
I was gutted
Quinn: these people have no stomach for the war that must be fought.
me: Reason for divorce? Irreconcilable differences? :-p
3:53 PM Quinn: he needs more hdd space. for his pr0n collection probably.
me: That is exactly the problem. There are not enough extremists in the world, and the ones that exist prefer to blow themselves up for Islam
3:55 PM Quinn: dammit. if only we could convince them to blow themselves up for linux instead.
i bet uncle bill would change his tune pretty quick after a few suicide bombers ran through the offices at redmond
hmm. what a disturbing turn this conversation has taken.
3:56 PM me: They could shout "For Software Freedom!" just before detonating
